Welcome
Welcome to Tabbook (“the app”, “we”, “us”). Tabbook is a business tool for small South African businesses: a client and lead book, invoicing with WhatsApp reminders, a cash book, bookings and broadcasts for your customers. By installing or using Tabbook you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
What Tabbook is — and is not
Tabbook is a record-keeping and communication tool. It is not a bank, a payment processor, or a financial adviser. We do not hold, move or collect your money, and we are not a party to any sale between you and your customers. Invoices, reminders, broadcasts, payment links and bookings are sent from your WhatsApp account and your provider accounts; you are responsible for the truth of what you send and for keeping proper financial records. Tabbook is not accounting or tax advice, and nothing in the app is a recommendation. For tax, VAT or legal advice on your business, speak to a registered practitioner.
Your responsibilities
You must use Tabbook lawfully. That means:
- do not use it to harass people or send bulk messages to people who opted out;
- respect the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) when you message clients;
- use real prices and descriptions on invoices;
- keep your own records — Tabbook is a tool, not a substitute for your statutory record-keeping.
Payment links and third parties
When you create a payment link (for example with Ozow, Capitec Pay, Yoco, SnapScan or Payfast), the payment is between your customer and that provider under their terms. Payment links you attach are generated against your merchant account. We never see card numbers and never handle funds. We are not liable for a provider rejecting a payment, delays or chargebacks; check your provider’s terms and fees before you rely on them.
Plans and billing
Tabbook has three plans: Free, Premium (R99/month or R999/year) and Pro (R199/month or R1,999/year). The plans are described on the product page. Google Play is the seller of record for subscriptions: billing, tax and refunds for Play purchases are handled by Google, and subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your Google Play account (cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period). The exact price for your account is always confirmed at checkout by Play.
Teams and workspaces (Pro)
The Pro plan lets you add staff accounts to a shared workspace. As the workspace owner you are responsible for the accounts you create or invite, for the people you give access to, and for how they use the data they can see. Every change any team member makes to the shared business data is logged in an audit trail visible to you (the owner); staff are told in the app that their business activity is logged. You may remove a staff member at any time; removal takes effect on their next online check-in.
Cloud backup and fair use (Pro)
Pro also adds cloud backup & restore: your workspace data is copied to our cloud database so it can be restored to any device and shared with your team. Cloud storage is for ordinary business bookkeeping; if a single workspace’s cloud use is unreasonable (beyond roughly 5 GB), we may ask you to reduce it or move to a custom plan before continuing to back it up. When your Pro subscription ends, cloud syncing pauses after a short offline grace period (about 2 weeks); your synced copy stays recoverable if you subscribe again.
Availability
Tabbook works offline-first: your data lives on your phone in an encrypted app database. We work hard to keep the updates coming, but we do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for lost business arising from phone loss, unmade backups, or a failed WhatsApp delivery.
Changes and termination
We may update these terms as Tabbook evolves; a bump to the version shown in the app will re-ask for your consent. You may stop using Tabbook at any time and uninstall it — your data stays on your device (see the privacy policy on backups). If you breach these terms, we may suspend your paid plan to the extent the law allows.
Off-Play licence keys
A limited licence-key route exists for EFT or complimentary purchases rather than Google Play. A key unlocks the plan named in the key (“premium” or “pro”) on your devices for the period printed on the key. A key is for the business that bought it: one key per business, on the devices you personally use for that business. Do not resell, share or publish keys. Keys are verified offline against our public key; keys that fail verification are refused. If a key is leaked publicly, we may retire it and issue a replacement to honest buyers.
Licence keys are single payments for their term and do not auto-renew unless you buy a new one. Under the Consumer Protection Act you have the right to cancel a fixed-term agreement on 20 business days’ notice with a reasonable cancellation charge pro-rated to the remaining term.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 where they apply. Questions or complaints: support@tabbook.co.za or our contact page.
